I know, I know. Not a single post about Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's to boot! But the title to my latest post has nothing to do with the fact that I didn't post to my blog during the holidays. I literally stopped talking! |
About a week ago, Mommy was oncall and had to work Saturday night. She started around 10PM, and I, of course, was already in bed. It apparently wasn't going well for Mommy, because, from time to time, I could hear her slamming things about and saying very bad words which I'm not allowed to repeat.
She finished at around 4:30AM and went immediately to bed. 1/2 an hour later Geddy, the fat cat, was meowing up a storm, so Daddy got up to feed the boys. He also decided to put me in my good cage out in the living room, so Mommy could sleep in peace.
Mommy awoke (a little grumpy) at around 10AM. She went about her usual business, running outside to feed the other birdies and squirrels, checking on Charlie, the bunny who lives inside with us, and putzing around the kitchen. Having already walked past my cage at least 1/2 a dozen times, she suddenly stopped dead in her tracks. 'Luuuuuuuuuucy! I didn't even see you there! How's my girl?'
I was way over on the far side of my cage on my tree toy. I didn't utter a word. I didn't make a sound. I didn't move an inch.
'What's the matter with Lucy?' she asked Daddy. Mommy was quite unpleased with his response. 'Nothing. She's just being good.' Mommy knew darn well that if I was being overly quiet, especially when Daddy was attempting to watch his TV toy, that something must be terribly wrong.
Mommy whisked me off to 'All Creatures', the place where she had taken the bunny when he got a big hairball stuck in his tummy. I didn't mind stepping up onto the tiny toy that allowed the girl human to weigh me. But when the male human came in, he attempted to smother me with a big towel. I flew as best I could, given my weak condition. He immediately turned off the lights, which blinded me, and I was no longer able to defend myself. I screamed and screamed which made Mommy very nervous.
After lots of poking and prodding, Mommy was finally able to put me back into my travel cage.
The doc had all sorts of guesses as to the cause of my condition. Had I been chewing on any walls, he asked Mommy. 'Yes', she replied. I had chewed on a wall next to the shower door where I spend every morning with Mommy.
Mommy rushed me home and ran out to buy me some seeds. She stopped feeding me seeds long ago, because I would pick them out of my other food, and just eat seeds. But because I had lost weight, and really needed to eat, Mommy was willing to make an exception.
It must have been 'good stuff' in that sharp toy that the doc had poked me with. I began to show a slight improvement in my behaviors later that night.
Over the next few days, I continued to show improvement. I began saying, 'Good-bye Lucy. Be a good girl!', every time Mommy left, and I returned to my morning ritual of saying, 'Let's go take a shower!'
Mommy finally got the results to my tests, and they all looked good. No lead poisoning. Cholesterol was a bit on the high side, which means no more french fries, no more tacos, and no more sharing pieces of everything that goes into Mommy's mouth! Oh boy, the good ole days are gone forever :(
Now that I'm back to my noisy, screaming self, Mommy is thrilled. Daddy, on the other hand . . . well Daddy is going to invest in some ear plugs ;)
